Wicker Park Buyer: Meghan

“I am so glad I had Meg’s support as I went through this process. From our first meeting, I knew I would be in good hands. Meg has a good grasp on the neighborhoods, comps and invests the time getting to know her clients. Meg is calm under pressure and made sure I got the most out of the contract with some great ideas for upgrades. She helped me with a number of selections for the house, so she is able to offer so much more than your standard realtor. I am lucky that in finding Meg, I also made a friend!”

Why did you choose Wicker Park?

Wicker Park checked all the boxes for me:
✔ Walkable to my office in West Loop (not so relevant in the WFH world ;))
✔ Tree lined streets with a neighborhood/city feel
✔ Large selection of bars, restaurants and shops
✔ Close to blue line for easy rides to O'Hare

What are you most excited about in your new home?

Moving from San Francisco where space was limited and pricey, I am so grateful to have an extra bedroom/bathroom for friends and family to come and stay for an extended period of time!

What is your new favorite neighborhood spot?

Bordel is a fun little speakeasy just a few blocks away from my condo. It is a fun place to grab a cocktail before or after dinner on Division.

How would you describe your style?

Clean, classic and neutral. Some say I need more pops of colors in my house, but I love the California coastal feel of my space. I am preparing myself for the day someone (or me) spills something on my white couch.

How did you decide on this place?

My first few weeks in Chicago, I spent my weekends finding open houses on Zillow in the neighborhoods I thought could be a good fit.  I took this time to get a better sense of the type of condo I wanted and the neighborhood. I pretty quickly ruled out some neighborhoods and found I had a strong preference for a new build in Wicker. Meg and I looked at a few new condos, but this one had me so excited. It wasn’t listed yet, I still had the ability to make some selections and the location was unbeatable. I am super indecisive, so I knew I needed a second pair of eyes to confirm it was “the one”.  I immediately called my Mom and she flew out the next day. Once I had Mom’s stamp of approval, I knew it was time to make an offer.

Do you plan to do any other updates on your place?

I need a few more pieces of furniture and some art before I call it finished. All little things, but will make the space feel more homey and complete.

What was a must-have in your home?

Outdoor space! Moving from San Francisco where I had no outdoor and little entertaining space, it was important to me to be able to host friends and family. Knowing Summer is so important in Chicago, I wanted to be able to enjoy it as much as possible from home. As soon as I saw the private rooftop with a view of the Chicago skyline, I was sold.

Favorite memory in your new home?

Love my morning weekday routine of sitting outside on my front balcony, while catching up on emails. My parent’s dog loves coming to visit and people (dog) watching from 3 stories up.

Favorite room in the house?

The kitchen/living room combination is definitely where I spend the most time. I love the lighting in the morning coming through the big front windows. In addition to the natural light, I love the light fixtures in the living room and kitchen. So happy Meg suggested I include a light fixture allowance in the contract. It allowed me to select fun fixtures that fit my style. It has been great for hosting wine tastings and entertaining.
